Mesquite Championship Rodeo
The Mesquite Championship Rodeo runs from April through September with lots of rip roarin’ excitement.

The Resistol Arena is designed with your comfort in mind. Convenient parking, large open spaces and air conditioning allow you to enjoy the rodeo no matter what the weather outside.

Rodeo at its Best
You will see rodeo action here like none other. Main rodeo events keep spectators on the edge of their seats. The cowboys and cowgirls who compete in these events are as tough as shoe leather, and must be sharp and able to react on the spur of a moment. All their senses must be at their finest.

Combine all the above with the toughest, orneriest animals you can find and you will have more than enough excitement to get you through the coming week.

The Competition
So sit back, and keep your eyes on the arena, for even a seconds blink and you could miss some of the most exciting moments in the rodeo. Many of these cowboys move like lightning.

In the bull riding events that take place the cowboy has to hang on for dear life with one hand. If he touches himself or the bull, he is in trouble. Saddle bronc riding is very similar, the cowboy hangs on for dear life. His legs and spurring action add to the skill of this event.

Bareback riding, tie-down roping, and steer wrestling are also events that keep the cowboy on his toes. In several of these events such as the roping, he must communicate well with his horse. His horse is his partner and plays an important part, without him the cowboy would not be able to do his job at all.
The ladies compete in the barrel racing and have their own bareback riding competition. It is every bit as exciting as anything the men do.

More Competition
To round out the competition throw in some more thrills. The chuck-wagon races are like chariot races of old. The wagons race at top speeds to get to the finish line first. Cowboy poker adds all the excitement of the other competitions but without the physical danger but it sure can send the adrenalin racing through your blood.

Family Fun
Rodeos are great events for the whole gang, from the littlest cowgirl to grandpa. The Calf Scramble which goes on simultaneously with other of the main events and is just for the youngsters. A hilarious sight to see – kids scrambling to catch a calf and drag it to the line.

There is also a petting zoo where the kids can get up close and personal with some of the gentler critters. Little ones can pet a baby goat or hug a bunny all under the watchful eye of mom or dad. Children can also ride a pony, get their picture taken and the whole family can get an autograph from their favorite rodeo guy or gal.

Fantastic Food
Come and eat with the cowboys. Sonny Bryan’s BBQ Pavilion offers scrumptious mouth watering barbecue with all the fixings. Something for even the pickiest of eaters.

All the Extras
Spend the weekend enjoying all the rousting rodeo fun you can handle. Let the kids play and visit the animals at the petting zoo and enjoy all the extras that you will find at the Mesquite Rodeo. Live country music adds to the festive air and there are plenty of shops to grab a souvenir to take back home. If your whole group wants to come along for the fun, the rodeo offers great group discounts too.
